Engagement Sneak Peek

Lauren and Kevin are getting married and Infinite Eye is so very lucky to be doing their wedding photography.  Cool thing, and we do mean cool, is that their date is December 30th!!  We plan to take full advantage of the cooler weather Edmonton area experiences that time of year to do a portion of the wedding formals on a ski hill.  I am VERY pumped to be combining two loves of mine – wedding photography on ski’s!!  I see a whole new fad coming!!!

Last week we did a “night-out” engagement shoot where we used the amazing light of the setting sun to capture more than a few beautiful moments between Kevin and Lauren, then we did Brewster’s and a few appetizers and finally  out to Jasper Ave for some after midnight shoot’n.  Great time – great people.  Please enjoy this sneak peek. – Jason

Happy Mother’s Day!

One of my favorite stories to read to my kids when they were young was ‘Love You Forever’ by Robert Munsch. It illustrates how a mother will love her child no matter what they do, no matter how old they get and no matter how far away they move. The older my kids get, the more I realize how true that is. There are times when we spend the entire day driving each other crazy. And yet at the end of it all, our day is sealed by a hug and the hope that tomorrow will be a better day. My last words to them before they go to sleep are “I love you.”

In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to share some images of my client Lisa and her family. Lisa is relocating her family to another province so she wanted some portraits of the kids with their grandmother. When we decided to take some shots of just Lisa and her mom, it seemed they were reminded of the impending distance between them. I was so moved by their emotions that I too, shed a few tears. They needed no words, just the comfort of a hug.

Happy Mother’s Day! May your day be full of hugs from the ones you love!

Sinead and Brett

What a perfect day for a winter wedding. We got a little bit of snow (just a sprinkle), a little bit of cloud (just enough to give me beautiful light), a bit of a breeze (just enough to make Sinead’s veil billow softly) and maybe even a little bit of frost bite! Sinead and Brett were an absolute delight to shoot and I loved all four of our locations. I think my favorite location had to be the restaurant  where they went on their first date. Everyone there was so accommodating. A friend of Sinead’s even went to the restaurant right after the ceremony so she could save “their” table for when we arrived for pictures. It was a neat feeling for me to capture the bride and groom in the place where it all began.

I absolutely loved the black and white theme of this wedding. It was beautiful and elegant in every way. The damask table cloths made a lovely setting for the black and white M&M’s, Oreo cookies and chocolate cupcakes frosted with white icing. To add to the understated beauty of their wedding, Sinead and Brett chose not to have a head table, they instead sat amongst the people they love so that they would not be the center of attention even on their big day! It also made smile when the bridal bouquet was not thrown into a crowd of single ladies, but was given to the couple who had been married the longest. Definitely some brilliant and unique wedding planning here!

Sinead was nothing less than stunning in her white and black wedding dress. And Brett, well, he was simply awesome! There is something special about these two. I could see it in the way they smile at each other, the way they seem so right together. They are a very fun and easy-going couple who have an amazing future ahead of them.

This was my first time shoot an entire wedding by my self and my first time working alongside a videographer. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but Drew and his wife of All Shook Up were fabulous to work with. Having them around took a lot of pressure off me to capture every single moment and I was better able to concentrate on my part of the wedding.

My Journey Part II – A Glimpse of Simplicity

I once read that the essence of a simple life is to be content with what you have. I saw it all around me during my recent trip to my home town, especially in the rural areas I visited. The children didn’t have toys and computers and video games; they didn’t have fancy brand name clothing or big rambling homes to live in. What they did seem to possess is the ability to be content and happy with the little bit that they did have. I struggle now with every trip to a store… do I really need another pair of shoes? Will I be happier with yet another toy for my kids? After seeing children who were happy to have an old bicycle tire and a stick to play with, it has really made me think twice about the things my family needs. I thought I had it all but I think now that maybe it is all those people living the simple life that have it all… With that said, my resolution for this year is to try to make due with what I have and to slowly change the “I want more” mentality in myself and my family. Maybe, just maybe it will enrich our lives and bring us back to what really counts…each-other. Maybe doing this will enable us to take another trip back home and learn more about the simple things which get forgotten in our fast paced lifestyle.
